PROPOSAL FOR AN INTERNATIONAL STANDARD ACUPUNCTURE TERMINOLOGY
Publication of the World Health Organisation.
Italian edition by the Paracelsus Institute. Paracelsus Editions.
40 pages.
This report documents the agreement reached by the WHO Scientific Group on the International Standard Terminology of Acupuncture. Working on the proposals presented by experts at meetings organised by the WHO Regional Office for the Western Pacific since 1981, the Scientific Group agreed that the international standard terminology should include an alphanumeric code and the names in Han character of the acupuncture meridians and points together with their transcription into the Chinese phonetic alphabet (Pinyin) and their translation into English.
The experts went on to propose a standard terminology for the 14 meridians, the 361 classical acupuncture points, the 8 extra meridians, the 48 extra points and for the craniopuncture lines.
